Unit Self Unit Inspection Guide - Kevin is handing out a checklist for
each position. These are due back to Kevin by the end of April. This will
help when the Wing does their inspection of our Squadron. If you have a

During the callout last Friday, 3 responded to the text message. Udo
debriefed. It was an ELT at Big Lake whose signal was bouncing off hanngers
and of the mountains in Eklutna Valley. A challenge, but our trained crew
found it. Kevin also extinguished an ELT on Monday.

VOR check is due on the first of the month for each of these aircraft, so
the next time they fly, check them.
The copy machine needs toner. Frank will try to have refilled before he
leaves for a month.
Doug reports the wireless router works well upstairs. If you need to make
a presentation while connected to the internet, you can use our new
wireless. The settings are on a paper on top of the router.
Safety installed foam trailing edge protectors on the wing of the aircraft
in the center position in the hanger. These prevent that diamond shape from
imprinting on peoples heads as they inadvertently walk into the wing. Please
store the foam pieces on top of the oil cabinet.
Cadets - the drill team won several trophies last weekend at the color
guard competition. Now they will be planning for a trip to Portland for the
Regional competition at the end of May.
Udo presented the Safety Brief for the upcoming SAREX.

- Flight release for the main flying exercise: Saturday Scott, Sunday

- If pilots need a recurrency in form 5, this is an opportunity.
- Participants must be current in MIMS
- Report all fuel and oil in WMIRS. It will calculate the maintenance
costs.
- Several training mission scenarios are available: route search with
photo recon; contour search; possible ELT. A good opportunity for
mountain pass familiarity.
- Remember runways are soft. If you have to land on a gravel runway
anticipate thawing conditions.
New members need to take the 116 test on line, Level 1, Cadet Protection,
OPSEC, and print out a 101 card. Also remember your membership card from
National.
The annual spring Seaplane Safety Seminar will be held April 12. Hosted by
the FAA Safety Team, Alaskan Aviation Safety Foundation, and the Seaplane
Pilots Association.
Also the 99s are having several upcoming events. A Flying Companion
session will be May 31, and a short field clinic will be June 14.
