Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes
February 19, 2008
- The statewide exercise, Arctic Care, is to be held on Kodiak Island from
February 26 through March 15. There is still room for volunteers. Mel
Sheppard is keeping a list. Wing is looking for a 3 day commitment. Kevin
has instituted a Polaris Policy of a hard surface of 10,000 feet to fly
across the water to Kodiak. While on the island, we will get briefings from
a local air taxi and will use local reporting points.
- In order to get an amphibious checkout, pilots need both a wheel checkout
and float checkout in that aircraft.
- Jennifer has volunteered to collect the flight suit and survival vest
sizes of all of the active squadron members. She needs your data by March 1.
Contact her at Jenny@dreamthunder.com
or at223-6537.
- Need any comments for Col Brown to take to National by February 27. Wing
Headquarters email address is akhdqcap@gci.net
- March 7 is the next Merrill Field Airport Commission meeting.
- Mel needs to move aircraft after the meeting.
- C-206 special break-in procedures are needed to help break in the new
motor. See Mel.

- C-185 61.8 hrs/100 hr 11.8 hrs/oil

- C-206 97.6 hrs/100 hr 47.6 hrs/oil However the filter on the new motor
needs changed at 10 hrs of use.
- Standard and Eval reminded everyone that we have $3,000 to fly the
practical part of the check pilot standardization course. The money must be
spent by the end of February.
- Kevin and Carl found an ELT today.
- Cadets have gained 2 cadets from Elmendorf. Color guard is practicing
twice per week.
- The Squadron will have a self inspectioin in April.
- Safety Spiel by Arnold Hudson. Arnold read a letter from the FAA regarding
child restraints when flying. FAA used to encourage flying small children in
automobile safety seats. Many times these were not convenient. Now a small
portable restraint system called CARES is available for children 22-44
pounds. It attaches to the existing seat belt system.
- Due to the extreme weather we have been having, rain over ice, Kevin
suggested that everyone carry ice cleats in your car so you will have them
when you need them.
- Kevin also reminded the Squadron that we are currently without a Deputy
Commander. If you would like to help out, please talk to Kevin.
