Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes  
January 15, 2008 

• Mel Sheppard will be acting Squadron Commander while Kevin is on vacation January 18-28.
  
  
• Cold weather operations limitations were distributed by Glen Morthorp of Wing Safety. Included is a matrix of temperatures and what flight activity is allowed for each. This information will be posted on the Squadron web page (AK Cold weather chart) and also a hard copy posted on the bulletin board.

   

• A SAREX has been approved to start January 25.

   

• A new Aircraft Flight Log form has replaced the Form 7 in the flight binder for each aircraft.

• There is no first aid kit in the flatbed plow truck. We will have to temporarily install one of our squadron first aid kits to be legal. Also be aware that this truck has a diesel engine. If you need help in learning how to start a diesel engine please ask. The plow has an electric lift. The battery will run down with extended use. Let the engine idle for 15 minutes or so to recharge the batteries after extended use. Thank you to everyone who has been helping with the snow plowing.

• Squadron dues are now due, $15 per year.

• Norm Long got power back into the building after construction crews cut one phase of our power. We did not have heat and only partial lights. Thanks Norm.

• The Birchwood squadron has a C-206 that we can use for the SAREX.

• Robin Broomfield presented the safety spiel.

  Use Crew Resource Management even with our small aircraft; enlist your front seat passenger to help read the checklists. Look for a challenge/response for each item on the checklist. Robin suggested when learning a new aircraft, or operating a particular aircraft for the first time, to read through the checklist before beginning the challenge/response on each item in the list.

• We need tow pilots for the glider program. If you are interested, please volunteer.
