Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes  
October 30, 2007  

• Christmas Party is coming. The membership selected December 11. Time 6:30 PM. Cost $5 per person or $10 per family.

   

• A SAR/DR pilot list for November is circulating for A and B missions. Please make sure your information is correct if you plan to fly.

   

• The correct date for the Christmas party is December 11. An incorrect date was published earlier.

   

• MRI management has published the annual snow storage instructions. If you plow, please store the snow in the two southern most tie downs.

   

• The construction review committee met with Dave Lundeby, the airport manager to review the 5^th Avenue construction plans. One of the facts that came out of the meeting is that the Polaris Building is on a permit lot, rather than a lease lot. This could have ramifications should we decide to sell this building and move to a better location as a result of the construction project.

   

• The MRI advisory council has a vacancy. The open seat requires the ownership or residence of a property within one mile of MRI. If interested, please see Kevin or contact the airport manager's office.

   

• FAA has issued a notice that TMOA will be established next year similar to this year. Comment period ends on December 13, 2007. To download the notice go to www.alaska.faa.gov/at <http://www.alaska.faa.gov/at> and click on the airspace/rule making notices.

   

• CAP National has issued a notice that private pilots without a commercial license and a second class physical can fly Air Force ROTC orientation flights. FAA has expanded the waiver that allows CAP mission pilots to fly certain reimbursable flights.

• The Beaver and C-185 that we anticipate for the squadron are reported to be in maintenance.

   

• A SAREX is being planned for the end of November. Stay tuned for more.

   

• The temperature gage on the van is still not working. Do not drive the van until it is fixed.

   

• Angie announced that she attended a post damage assessment course. One of the items discussed in the course is the anticipated use of CAP to fly damage assessment flights.

   

• Lou showed the meeting the class patch she got from the SAR training she attended this past summer.

   

• The cadets had two successful Halloween parties. They got two new cadets this week. An outing is planned for this Saturday to go out and teach fire craft. Senior members are encouraged to help out. At this point four seniors have volunteered; Carl, Arnold, Skip, and Marc B.

   

• Safety Spiel was presented by Carl Siebe. Carl discussed two items.First, he has noticed several vehicles driving around town with headlights but no tail lights. He suggested that everyone check their tail lights before leaving the meeting tonight.

  The second item was the suggestion to wear chemical resistant gloves when checking the fuel sumps in our aircraft. 100 LL has high concentrations of benzene, toluene, and most of the other enes according to the MSDS sheet. Rather than have all of these wonderful chemicals on your skin, use gloves.

   

• Mel had pictures and announced that a Grumman Duck under restoration at the Alaskan Aviation Heritage Museum and owned by the Ketchum family flew this past weekend for the first time in 60 years. Way to go Ketch.
