Polaris Composite Squadron

Meeting Notes

July 3, 2007

Mel Sheppard led the meeting as Kevin is on vacation.

Mel relayed the items discussed at the Commanders Call.

He reiterated that any squadron member can ground an airplane for a safety deficiency.  It is better to ground the aircraft and then decide what to do rather than fly an airplane with a questionable deficiency.

Go over the risk management forms before any flight.

All flights must be input into WMIRS.

Leah from Wing will be here next week to give a class on WMIRS.  Personnel from other squadrons are welcome to attend.

Wing is looking for fuel vendors to make donations to help pilots maintain pilot proficiency.

Wing is trying to get more joint missions with the US Coast Guard.  Wing is also trying to get some fire spotting missions.

An email from the National Commander discussing avoiding all unprofessional activity while on any CAP activity.  If you did not get this and want a copy, please see Mel.

Bob Leonard, OTZ Squadron Commander, is looking for an instructor to give form 5 rides in a C-182.  If you can assist, please call Bob or Mel.

Several memberships are expiring soon.  If you are not sure, look at your membership card or see Mel.

Our cadets will lead the 4th of July parade in Anchorage .

Skip briefed on the 5th Avenue development in front of the squadron and how it will affect our access to the building.

Marc Stella presented the safety spiel.

Every day is water safety day.

Alaska has had multiple drownings already this year.

Panic causes ingestion of water.

Be prepared mentally so that if you do go into the water, you have already thought about what to expect and how to react.

Marc related a story of an air taxi aircraft on floats that crashed.  The required life jackets were in the back of the plane.  Everyone on board drowned.  Wearing life jackets is mandatory on CAP float planes.
