Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes
April 24, 2007
- Our Cadets won five trophies at the color
guard competition last weekend. Congratulations Cadets!! The Cadets are now
planning on traveling to San Francisco for the Regional Color Guard
Competition.
- B-12 and B-17 list for May was circulated for any corrections. It will
be sent to Wing tomorrow.
- A Wing wide safety survey was distributed by email. If you are not on
the email distribution see Kevin for a copy. Members at their option can
fill out the form. It was suggested by one member that we suggest orange
or red flight suits rather than the green required by CAP regulations.
- The Wing Commander sent a letter to all squadron commanders reminding
them that only the Wing Commander can approve expenditure of
funds.Apparently there was a problem of an unauthorized approval of an
expenditure.
- Doug Statts distributed a critique of last weekends statewide exercise.
One of the problems encountered was slow response by flight crews. Crews
are requested to try to get airborne as soon as possible after the tasking
is received, and if it is a photo mission to get the requested photo back
to the requestor as soon as possible.
- Inland SAR training will be held June 13-22 here in Anchorage. Persons
wishing to attend must sign up ahead of time. Contact Harry Whitaker.
- The MRI Airport will dispatch a dump truck to pickup trash items around
the airport on May 1-3.
- The SUI will be this weekend, 8:30 AM on Saturday. All positions are
requested to come by and get inspected.
- The C-206 on the ramp belongs to Marv Adams. Marv is making his airplane
available to members who need a C-206 checkride. Marv is currently in
Kodiak for work, but will be available for checkrides as soon as he
returns.
- The vehicle gate between our building and the tower is not working
reliably. Some members were able to activate, but several were not able.
MRI maintenance will be notified.
- Make sure all pilot files are current before the SUI inspection.
- This is our Safety Meeting. The guest speaker was Butch Tolson, a
commercial pilot. Butch said he
worked for several people including Rusts Flying Service
- and he owned his own Part 135 on Kodiak Island. Butch talked about
Attitude. He has observed that pilots with a bad attitude are more likely
to have accidents that pilots with good attitudes. Good attitudes are
several things:
- good judgment
- open mind
- must always be prepared
- be aware of things that work against you
- avoid tunnel vision
- draw line with personal minimums
- mentor the less experienced
- take care of safety precautions
