Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes  
February 13, 2007  

• The request to extend the SAREX was denied by Jim McCarthy. When we have SAREX with a photo recon exercise, it is important to produce the photos when you go on that selected mission. You must follow the scenario.
  
  

• All Mission Pilots (MP), Observers (OB), and Scanners (SC) - there is no longer Squadron level training courses. You must go online to complete the Level 1 Cadet Protection course. The link to Level 1 training courses can be found on our website, home page, left side, Level 1 Training. The remainder of the training will be done with the squadron during actual flying time. New members must also complete the 116 PTS 1 & 2 tests. All MP, OB, and SC must go online and complete the SET course. The Skills Evaluator Training and Exam is under MIMS, CAP Online Exams
  
  
• Wings Program - a logbook endorsement is not required if a Wings Card has been issued.
  
  
• Kevin went over the letter about the multi-engine aircraft and some questions members may have had. The letter can be reviewed here ---> Multi-engine aircraft. If you may print or save a copy of this memo for future reference.
  
  
• The squadron is looking for a volunteer to become our new Deputy Commander. Kevin wants to groom the Deputy for the future Squadron commander position.
  
  

• Aircraft Availability

• There are special procedures for putting the Tug on the Beaver to move it in or out of the hangar. If you need assistance or instructions, contact Operations or Brent Dunn.
  
  
• John Wahl donated a TV for the squadron. It is hooked up to the VCR and DVD player and ready for use for training.
  
  
• We need an EXIT sign over the door on the second floor.
  
  
• Transportation - Make sure blade on snowplow is low enough to allow cooling air to radiator. Use safety chain on blade when using truck on highway.
  
  
• Safety - still waiting for the taxi diagram for posting in our aircraft books.
  
  
• Finance - Phil Bach explained the reimbursement procedure. Reimbursements require filling out a form 50.Wing will send a check to the member. Time to process is unknown at this time. Checks for Squadron should be made out to AK Wing AK015 so that the money will be credited to our Squadron. A note will be placed in the pilot proficiency notebook.
  
  
• Medical - Terri presented information on strap throat. This is a bacterial infection. You get a high fever, feel fatigue, and have difficulty swallowing. It is very contagious. It takes 10 - 12 days to recover and you need to take antibiotics. To help relieve the symptoms, try a tea gargle, use a humidifier, and eat a liquid diet.
  
  
• Bob Leonard may be looking for assistance for Kotzebue. He was a member of CAP in Kotzebue in 2000, then moved outside. He is back in Alaska and was visiting our squadron.
  
  
• Cadets are selling homemade Valentines greeting cards. They will be on sale after the meeting. Special cards can be made for you.
  
  
• March 6 - Flight Release Officer class. If you are a Flight Release Officer or want to be a FRO you must attend this class.
  
  
• Safety Spiel by Adam - Pre-flight crew briefing. Adam provide suggestions for pre-takeoff briefing items such as:
  
  • runway length and take-off data. This will determine where you should be off the runway and when to abort takeoff.
  • Who will be flying
  • Emergencies situations on runway, climb out, etc.
  • airspeeds - Vx, Vy, rotation and climb speeds
  • Sids and Departure procedures
  • Sterile cockpit procedures

  Adam provided a hand-out to help you prepare this type of crew briefing.
