Polaris Composite Squadron Meeting Notes

• Wing has established new taxi procedures for Lake Hood in response to another taxi incident. See the PIF and Polaris web site for a a copy. To read the procedures click here --> LHD Taxi Procedures
  
  

• The Lake Hood Taxi procedures will be reviewed during our Safety Meeting on 30 Jan. 2007. It is mandatory for all pilots to attend this briefing.
  
  

• For new members, the Level 1 course and Cadet Protection courses are to  be completed online. New members will also receive the CD in their membership packets. You must bring your completed certificate into the squadron to receive credit for completion. To get to the course online click on Level 1 Training on our homepage.
  
  

• May 2007 is scheduled for the Wing guided exercise. This will be similar to the graded exercise managed from Wing last summer. Kenai will be the base for this exercise. Planning on 2 exercises before the main event.
  
  

• All members must complete the Opsec course, online (https://tests.cap.af.mil/opsec)
  
  

• Aircraft Availability

  • C-172   12.6 hrs/oil   62.6 hrs/100 hr

  • DHC-2   13.9 hrs/oil filter   63.9 hrs/100 hr

• Marv will look into having a Ski-plane clinic
  
  

• Maintenance is working on getting the GPS in the C172 updated so it could be used for IFR flights.
  
  

• Testing for satellite radio communications is in progress.
  
  

• Emergency Services - Working on a SAR for the first part of February
  
  

• Reminder-  this is a new year so our annual squadron dues is due. The $15 annual fee pays for the ongoing expenses of the squadron. $15.
  
  

• Reminder - please use the area behind the hanger for parking during meetings. This will leave the front parking area for new members and those late for the meeting.
  
  

• Safety - Review the cold weather operations procedures. The information is in the Pilot's read file
  
  

• Safety Spiel - Carl Siebe talked on the pilot responsibilities that accompany accepting a "maintain visual separation" instruction from ATC.When a pilot accepts this instruction for separation from a heavy jet,the pilot also accepts responsibility for wake turbulence separation also. One technique may be to not acknowledge that you have visual separation, which forces ATC to provide that service.
