Meeting Notes

June 10, 2008

 

Mission availability sheet was circulated by Kevin so we know who will be available over the next two weeks.  This is part of the Wing practice exercise.  If you were not at the meeting, call Kevin or Mel with your availability.  Mel will be the contact for the week of June 16 as Kevin will be in Seward.

 

The contractor for the 5th avenue road project has announced the following road closures.   June 13-16; June 20-23; July 11-14.

 

Anchorage Amateur Radio Club is having a field day at Kincaid, June 28, 2008.  If you are interested in amateur radio this will be a good chance to see what it is all about.

 

The Thunderbirds will be practicing during the week prior to the Elmendorf Air Show June 28 and 29.  Expect some airspace restrictions during the week.  Call 552-SHOW with any questions.

 

Nosewheel aircraft will be coming and going throughout the summer.  If you need a nosewheel airplane for a checkout or proficiency, keep checking.

 

The SAREX for the end of June is not yet approved.

 

A tail wheel clinic is scheduled for the weekend after July 4.

For the upcoming exercise, anticipate a simulated disaster that will take down Wing communications.  Polaris will assume communications duties.  Anticipate a possible flight on Friday, with the heavy flying on Saturday and into Sunday.  If tasked with a time sensitive flight, try to get launched and meet the schedule (i.e. the ferry departing Whittier ).  Also as soon as possible after landing, get the work product delivered to the customer. 

 

Palmer Colony days celebration is this weekend.

 

Cadets are going to Dayton the end of this month.

 

Udo presented the safety spiel.  While taxiing out recently for a flight, a newly installed instrument in the panel caught fire.  Lesson learned is know your emergency procedures.  Also elderly passengers who had been briefed on exiting the aircraft were not able to do so.

 

ELT search yesterday, crew found Lake Amphibian that had crashed near Girdwood.  The aircraft was being salvaged when the ELT was accidentally set off.  It was a successful mission. 

 

A found, previously lost, pair of sunglasses was removed from the C-185 and are in Kevin’s box.

 

Mel indicated Wing had provided some relief on recommendations for checkouts in the amphib aircraft.
